The Fastest Way to Feel Behind?

Comparison.

There's a version of this where you do everything right and still feel like you're losing, and it usually starts with looking sideways.

Somebody is lifting more than you. Somebody you started with is further along. Somebody on your phone is doing all of it at 5 am with better lighting. None of that has anything to do with your training, but it shapes how you feel about it.

Comparison doesn’t just put you in a bad mood; it changes what you do.

  • You start chasing someone else's numbers instead of building your own
  • You skip the boring work because it doesn't look like what they're posting
  • You judge a good session as a bad one because someone had a better one
  • You quit something that was working, three weeks before it would have shown

That last one is the expensive one. Most people don't stop because a program failed. They stop because it wasn't going as fast as somebody else's.

The comparison isn't even accurate, which is the frustrating part.

  • You don't know what their sleep, stress, or schedule looks like
  • You don't know what they were handed genetically
  • You definitely don't know what got cropped out of the photo

What you can focus on:

  • Whether you show up
  • What effort you give while you're there
  • What you eat most of the time
  • Whether you sleep enough to recover from any of it
  • Whether you keep going after a bad week

That's it. That's the entire lane. Everything outside it is noise, and every minute you spend managing it is a minute you're not spending on what works.

"With guidance, all provided remotely through online coaching, I’ve lost 70 pounds, built muscle, and reached a fitness level I never thought possible, to the point where people no longer recognize me."
